As women’s wellness expert, transformative coach and 53-year-old woman, I know midlife can be challenging. Should you spread your wings or clip them? With over two decades coaching, teaching and inspiring women and most importantly real-life experience co-creating powerful positive transformation, my view is radically different. Today I love myself and approach life from a powerful place of wellbeing.
But it wasn’t always like this. I once believed the path to wellbeing was weight loss. I thought that obtaining the “perfect” body would solve all my problems. But focusing on weight WAS the problem—blocking joy, personal growth and connecting with my genius and passion.
For years I hid my brilliance and power and followed programs for perfection, success and happiness projected by parents, friends and society. I attended an Ivy League University, earned a Master’s in Nutrition and became a Registered Dietitian, then a certified personal fitness trainer, a Wellness coach and finished a PhD in psychology.
While my intellectual pursuits provided me with valuable knowledge and skills, what really lit me up was unlocking what Deepak Chopra refers to as the hidden dimensions of your life—connecting with spirit and my higher purpose and helping others do the same. But I was scared of what people would think and what would happen if I embraced my true self, let go of perfection – the need to control and have life be a certain way – and just followed the song in my heart.
Fortunately, life has a fabulous way of leading you in the right direction if you let it. During my doctoral dissertation, I discovered self-compassion – essentially treating your self like a good friend. As I meditated, practiced and started teaching self-compassion, I fell in love with my Self. The drive for perfection was replaced by self-acceptance, and the nagging, critical voice that had haunted me for years disappeared.
Today, My life is filled with passion, purpose and meaning. Sometimes it’s a hot mess, but now I ditch all the judgment and can accept, handle and embrace it. I love and care for myself deeply, and I’m able to use my gifts of healing, wisdom and intuition to help others live happier, more fulfilling lives. And I’d love to help you…
